Build your website and use your own domain

Make a website with several pages, a shared menu and footer, and show it at your own address, like www.yourbusiness.com.

Steps

  1. Open Website and pages under Grow, then Website, and choose Create website. You start with a home page, an about page and a contact page with an enquiry form.
  2. Choose Edit beside a page. Design it with the same sections as landing pages, set its menu wording and its search title and description, then choose Save page.
  3. Add more pages under Pages. Use Up and Down to set the menu order, and Make home page to choose the page that opens first.
  4. Under Menu and footer, choose whether to show your logo and a button to your booking page, and add your footer text, contact details and social links. Choose Save menu and footer.
  5. Choose Publish website. Your website opens at app.rella.ca, your link name, then /site. Changes stay private until you choose Publish changes.
  6. To use your own domain, add it under Your own domain, for example www.yourbusiness.com. Rella shows the record to add. If the card says connecting your own domain is coming soon, your website still works at its Rella address.
  7. Sign in to the company you bought the domain from and open its DNS settings. Add a CNAME record with the name www that points to app.rella.ca, and remove any other record named www.
  8. Back in Rella, choose Check connection. Once it says Connected, your website opens at your domain with a secure padlock. The first visit can take a minute.

Check it worked

Your domain opens your home page, the menu leads to each page, and a test enquiry from the contact page appears in Enquiries with the source website: and the page link ending.

Common questions

Check connection says it could not find a record

New records can take from a few minutes to a few hours to show. Check the name is www (not your full domain) and the value is app.rella.ca, then check again later.

It says the domain points somewhere else

Another record for the same name is still there, often from a previous website builder. Remove it, keep only the CNAME to app.rella.ca, and check again.

My domain without www does not open

Add the www address in Rella. At your domain company, turn on forwarding from yourbusiness.com to www.yourbusiness.com.

My edit is not on the website

Save page keeps changes private. Choose Publish changes, or Save and publish website in the page editor.
